Letterboxing
This is a fun activity with (or even without) grandchildren.  We have done several and have enjoyed each one.
Caution: Always check for ticks at the end of the day.  Check it out at www.letterboxing.org

Double O Good Alpaca Ranch
Comments:There are a large variety of the animals and on some days the barn is open to see them up close, often with someone to tell about them. They have a website and "show and tell days can be determined. Just up Rt 29 a short distance past Rt 15 is Cerro Gordo Rd. If you follow that to Falkland Dr. you will see the Double O Good Alpaca Ranch

Taking the grandchildren on the VRE can be fun...
Comments: The last train in the morning departs from Broad Run Station in Manassas as late as 7:50 a.m. and goes as far as Union Station. Return trips begin at 1:15 p.m. Children under age 6 ride free.
Contact Information: WWW.VRE.ORG or 1-800-RIDE-VRE.

Comments From Resident:

  • If you don't get to the Broad Run Station before 7:00, you will not be able to park unless you park on the side of the road.  When it's muddy, you get stuck.
  • I use the VRE periodically, going in on business.  I have found, probably because of telecomuting and flextime, that on Mondays and Fridays I can find parking at Broad Run even around 8 a.m.
  • Manassas Park still has parking.
